Seattle is the largest metropolis in the Pacific Northwest, and Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue Metro Area is the 6th richest city in the US as of 2020. As a major port of entry and sea gateway to Europe and Alaska, the city’s position along Puget Sound adds to the appeal. Seattle is known for its booming high-tech sector, soaring home prices, and cultural depth – featuring amazing restaurants, fun retail, live music, quick access to skiing, hiking, and sailing, and a variety of activities for all interests.

The city is densely populated. The metropolitan area, loosely defined, ranges from Everett in the north, Bellevue/Kirkland on the Eastside, and Tacoma to the south. Many in the work force have elected to commute from more affordable towns beyond the city proper. It is estimated that 200,000 workers (pre-pandemic) commute to downtown Seattle.

Seattle is ranked 14th in the job market category and is home to Boeing, the nation’s largest aerospace firm. It is also HQ for Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks, to name a few. The unemployment rate in Seattle peaked in April 2020 at 17.3% and is now 11.1 percentage points lower. Seattle had the third highest annualized growth rate among U.S. cities with more than 250,000 residents. The city’s population grew from 670,109 residents to 753,675 residents between 2014 and 2019. Seattle’s growth rate during that time was 2.38%.

Seattle ranks:
#1 – America’s Best Cities for a Healthy Retirement
